THE OKMONIKS "Afterparty Fever!!! "LP
San Francisco's last and only rock and roll band THE OKMONIKS has teamed up with Slovenly Recordings for “Afterparty Fever!!!” Here are nine new houserockin’ woman led punk rock’n’roll blasts that capture the essence of a party that just don’t stop. This particular all-nighter was recorded live in a small room, and you can tell from the screams, handclaps, and peals of laughter that this 17 minute end result was produced in a gloriously boisterous session. “Afterparty Fever!!!” captures the girls-to-the-front, make-room-for-dancing, leave-'em-wanting-more live show they've been dishing out for freaks world-wide for the past two decades. The OKs are fronted by Helene 33 on vox, simultaneously playing impossible sounding, finger stretching 60s Ace Tone Top 5 organ tones while tossing it around like a toy… It must be seen to be believed, and a believer you shall be!
The Okmoniks recorded and produced every song on this album, and wrote them all with the forgivable exception of one cover by Tucson 60s punk outfit The Grodes. “Afterparty Fever!!!” sounds like a band in 1977 doing their favorite 1966 stompers: devastating dancers like “Don't Wanna See You No More” and “I'll Let You In” could fit comfortably in a John Waters teen shimmy montage, giving way to rockers like “He Left the Party with Me” and “Summer Break Up” that could serve as the captions for a comic panel in “Punk” Magazine.
Reviews: TRUE TESTIMONIALS about AFTERPARTY FEVER!!!
It's been sixteen years since the release of "Party Fever!!!" The mere blink of an eye for the young at heart! You never know what inspires a band to release new music but after spending some time with this record, I'd say The Okmoniks definitely had some goals for "Afterparty fever!!!" To sharpen their tools and make a record with a bigger sound, that expands the sonic pallet and shows off Helene's vocal range. The more Hi-Fi production value highlights the tightness of the band, without changing the recipe. Farfisa, guitar, drums, bass, attack! If anything, "Afterparty Fever!!!" delivers more attack! -- Greg Cartwright (Reigning Sound, The Oblivians)
Are there enough cool kids left in San Fran (they love it when you call it that!) to conjure up a decent party? With their smoking new album, Afterparty Fever!!!—so named to follow-up their Party Fever!!! LP—San Francisco by way of Tucson ragers the Okmoniks leave no doubt that hell yeah, there is, at least at their house. You just can’t not jump up and dance to this nine-song blast driven by queen Helene 33 and her signature Ace Tone organ riffs and high-tone rants. I don’t know how you sound this tight with the wheels still falling off, but seriously, Sammy (guitar), drummer pretty Pascual, and bassist Jason do just that. I can’t tell you how many times I flipped the record over and over before I realized that the same songs are on both sides—but no matter, this shit rules. And don’t miss the Okmoniks live—that shit rules too.-- Allison Wolfe (Bratmobile)
After 20 years of putting out some of the most deliciously pristine lo fi garage rock party bangers , The Okmoniks add to their collection a brilliant new (HIGH FIDELITY) OPUS , "After Party Fever". Rock 'n' rolls popularity classically waxes and wanes, but we can safely say with this offering that The Okmoniks are the last great garage band still left standing, the lovely Helene's voice and organ are as bewitching as ever, Jason and Pascual hold a rhythm section so tight it's impenetrable, and Sammy hypnotic rhythm guitar glues the entire ensemble together. The formula they created still yields gold: sticky sweet and catchy razor sharp pop tunes that stick in your head forever. LONG LIVE THE OKMONIKS!!!!!-- Brontez Purnell (Gravy Train!!!!, The Younger Lovers)
