CAMPINGSEX - 1914! RE LP

In the short time before Campingsex became MOTHER, the band's first album, 1914! was released in 1985, which was also to be the last in this line-up.

When you put on the Campingsex record and the feedback by which you are greeted is extinguished, you feel in seconds the destructive energy that is to run through the complete work of art. The oppressive mood seems almost self-destructive in a way and was probably unparalleled at the time. Screeching guitars share the space with a rattling bass and driving drums, complemented by the wonderfully insane vocals of Max Müller, who forces the German language into previously unknown forms. When he blurts out lyrics like "Love is just another word for hate in this world", you believe him that he means all that just the same.

Campingsex is not light stuff, the guitars remain distorted with pain on the whole record, vocals and lyrics are rarely in a positive mood, song structures are searched for in vain. But that's exactly what makes 1914! such an outstanding album for me, which can't fit into any group. (Pretty In Noise)
